Ever since Power of the Dog I've loved Winslow but Frankie Machine, the Boone Series, Savages, etc. They've all been great. Plus, the short stories.
I wanted to comment because I did read an interview ages ago where he spoke about chapter construction for Bobby Z. He had a morning train commute of about an hour and wrote on the train and said he got into the habit of trying for a chapter a day and wrapping it up when he was 15-20 mins away from his destination.
Hell yeah. Using an arbitrary measure to close out a chapter can work great. I've used word counts in my own stuff (at times), and found I can kinda hypnotise myself into naturally bringing the thing home as I circle the word limit. Thanks for reading J.
